designer nicole mclaughlin continues her exploration into upcycling everyday items into fantastical yet totally wearable shoes. having previously used shuttlecocks and tennis balls, the latest creations push the boundaries of footwear by utilizing objects such as egg cartons, backpacks and even a bag of haribo. working for reebok as a graphic designer by day, mclaughlin documents this sideline project on her instagram and has become well-known across the internet for her bizarre array of wearable pieces.

expressing the designer’s creativity, mclaughlin uses items that would never normally be associated with shoes. from a retro gardener’s bag fashioned into a shoe, to a crossword puzzle strapped over a slider – even with a little light – the peculiar nature of the creations are impossible not to look at. the array of apparel also shows the power of upcycling, as the designer also makes shorts, trousers and umbrellas, all from unexpected items and materials.
